Chronology of cameras Chinon
Perhaps running out of ideas, Chinon adopted a new naming convention for its models starting in 1986. These are now called "Auto," followed by a number ending in 1.
All of these are motorized compact cameras with autofocus and flash. They differ in their lenses and the presence of an automatic framing system.
The first models in this new series still have a design very similar to the last Chinon 35 models, with angular shapes and a flash dependent on the protection cover. The subsequent models become more rounded, following the trend of the time.

In parallel with this series, Chinon marketed a series of simpler cameras whose names start with Auto GL.

The Chinon Auto 2001 was presented at the 1987 PMA. It differs from the Auto 1001, introduced less than a year earlier, by having a brighter lens and automatic film speed recognition. As a result, there is a price difference of about thirty percent between the two models.
